On the Joe Rogan Experience podcast, Jonathan Haidt provides frightening numbers in relation to young adults from 12-years to 17-years old, Higher Education Research Institute states that between 2014 and 2016 almost 20% more girls had psychological disorders than boys. Haidt claims this is from boys causing problems externally, as opposed to girls causing problems internally within themselves. During those ages, young adults are having major changes with their body and emotions. But with the accessibility of the internet and phones now plays a huge part too. Kids are starting to use devices as early as the age of two; before they start talking they already know how to use an iPad. It’s tough because this is now looked as a normality. If a kid in school doesn’t have a phone, they will likely get teased or made fun of. Society has made it easy for us to compare ourselves with one another, causing others to feel bad.
